The Howard Payne University women’s basketball team fell 70-48 to conference opponent UT Dallas Thursday evening at the Brownwood Coliseum.
Anna Beamesdefer scored a season-high 14 points for Howard Payne sparked by 3 of 6 shooting from behind the arc. She also pulled down five rebounds.
Brenna Welsh followed with eight points and three assists for the Lady Jackets. Taliyah Bess grabbed six rebounds and Bria Neal grabbed five boards.
Down 33-21 at the half, HPU started the third with a 14-2 run to pull within four, 37-33 on a Katlyn Ward three-pointer.
UTD then extended its lead back to double digits and went on to claim the final, 70-48. UTD led the rebounding battle 51-39 and HPU held the Comets to just 20% shooting from behind the arc.
The Comets were led by Amanda Crowninshield with 17 points followed by Kaylee Boykin with nine points.
Howard Payne is now 2-16 overall and 0-11 in American Southwest Conference action. UT Dallas stands at 12-6 overall and 8-3 in league play. The Lady Jackets will play next on Thursday, Jan. 26th in Abilene, Texas versus McMurry University at 5:30 pm.
