Saturday night’s thunderstorms resulted in widespread flooding in Brown County and the surrounding area. According to submissions from BrownwoodNews.com followers, there were reports of 2 inches of rain in Bangs, 4.5 to 5 inches within the City of Brownwood, a 6.5 inch report from Cross Cut, an 8.5 inch report from Goldthwaite and 9.45 inch report from Rising Star. A submitted video from Rising Star showed impassable roads through town, and at 1 a.m. Sunday TxDOT issued a statement that U.S. 183 was closed from north of Early to Rising Star due to flood conditions.
No official rainfall totals for the area had been released by the National Weather Service as of 8 a.m. Sunday.
Also as of 8 a.m. Sunday morning, Lake Brownwood was 7.85 feet below pool, up almost 1.5 feet from Friday morning at the same time when it was 9.26 feet below. The lake level will continue to rise as rain water from the north makes its way south via the Pecan Bayou. The lake was also 60.8 percent full at 8 a.m. Sunday morning, the first time in six months it has been at least 60 percent full.
