On Friday, Oct. 2 demolition began on the old ice house and located on Baker and Lee Streets, just southwest of the Brownwood Coliseum. The demolition does not include the brown brick Timmins building but does include the warehouse buildings nearby.
On July 22, the Board of Directors of Brownwood Municipal Development District awarded a bid Martin Earthworks of Brownwood at a cost of $261,469. The demolition also includes all the metal warehouse buildings in the block adjacent to the Timmins building.
“That will clean that area up but it will also spur on some other development and if Council and BMDD board moves forward with an events center project, as we’ve talked about for a long time, this will be kind of the first step,” Ray Tipton, Executive Director of the BMDD said back in July.
