BROCK – Coming off back-to-back 100-point performances, including a season-high 108 in the bi-district round of the playoffs, the Brownwood Lions were held 52 points below their season average and mustered just one point during the final 12:11 of Friday’s 70-28 loss to No. 9 Argyle in Region I-4A area playoff action.
The 28 points scored by the Lions (24-10) were 16 fewer than their previous low for the season – which occurred in a 61-44 loss at Snyder on Dec. 21. Brownwood entered the contest averaging 80 points per outing.
Trailing 38-22 at halftime after giving up five points in the final 65 seconds of the second period, Brownwood mustered just one second-half field goal and four free throws. Following a bucket by Jakob Hataway at the 4:11 mark of the third period, the Lions yielded 26 straight points to Argyle (27-6) before Ike Hall knocked down one of two free throws with 43 seconds left in the game – ending an 11:28 span without a point for the Lions.
Christian Kinzler led Brownwood with 11 points followed by Hataway with seven, Bryson Monroe with six, Ike Hall with three and Luke Moss with one point.
For Argyle, Jayson Demcher led all scorers with 19 points followed by Wayne Pritts with 13 and Hutch Burns with 12.
