The District 6-4A front-running and 14th-ranked Stephenville Honeybees chalked up a 25-7, 25-14, 25-13 victory over the Brownwood Lady Lions Friday afternoon at Warren Gym.
Still seeking their first district triumph under first-year head coach Cheyanne Lovelady, the Lady Lions (7-22, 0-3) shook off a rough first set and led 10-9 in the second set. Stephenville (24-5, 2-0), however, regained the momentum with a 16-4 closing spurt and never allowed Brownwood to threaten the remainder of the match.
Aniah Hines and Miranda Northcutt led Brownwood with three kills apiece trailed by two from Hannah Deen, and one by Jaslin Jones.
Emma Ringer dished out five assists, Arieseli Hernandez recorded three and Icess Hall registered one.
Aubrie Felux served both of Brownwood’s aces.
On the defensive end, Molly Oliver collected four digs followed by Felux and Ringer with two apiece, and Deen, Chloe Walls and Jeniffer Romero with one each.
Northcutt and Felux chipped in one block each at the net.
The Lady Lions will host Graham in the second of four consecutive district matches at Warren Gym at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
