The Brownwood Lions soccer team suffered a defeat as bitter as the temperatures at Gordon Wood Stadium Tuesday night, dropping a 4-0 decision to the Stephenville Yellow Jackets to round out the first half of District 5-4A soccer action.
In a game that ended with the temperature at 19 degrees with a wind chill of 5, the Lions (4-8-1, 1-3) surrendered one goal in the first half, and three more in the second as rival Stephenville was able to pull away.
The Yellow Jackets grabbed a 1-0 advantage just 9:53 into the contest, where the score remained through intermission. Stephenville then tacked on two more goals within the first seven minutes of the start of the second half, and scored once more with 11:16 left on the clock.
“It was super frustrating because we had higher expectations than what we put on display,” said Lions head coach Michael Westerman. “Like the past games, there’s some positives to take away from it but, again, we’ve been exposed in areas we need to continue to work on, and that’ll be our focus moving forward.”
The Lions begin the second half of district action at Lampasas at 7 p.m. Friday.
