In their final outing prior to the District 4-4A soccer opener, the Brownwood Lions were dealt a 3-0 defeat by the San Angelo Lake View Chiefs Friday night at Gordon Wood Stadium.
After a scoreless tie in the first half, Lake View tallied the first goal 37 seconds into the second half, scoring on an offensive rebound from point blank range. The Chiefs then tacked on two insurance goals with 9:49 and 6:48 remaining in the contest.
“There is no questioning our effort, there never is, we just have to finish,” said Lions head coach Scott Swanzy. “Even their coach said how we’re scrappy, we just have to finish.
“I hate this same old broken record, but we will go back to work. It’s about practicing the way we need to play, high speed. If we want to finish we have to work on finishing at that speed. They had less opportunities but they capitalized and made them count, and we didn’t.”
