The Brownwood Lions opened a 12-stroke lead after the first day of the Abilene High Invitational, hosted by the The Hideout, and cruised a 20-shot victory in the two-day, 36-hole event that concluded Saturday.
Brownwood carded a 301 team score Friday and followed with a 314 Saturday for a 615 composite score. Coming in second, after team rounds of 313 and 322, was Brock with a 635 total.
Individually, Brownwood’s Hudson Reagan fired a 66 Friday and followed with a 77 Saturday for a 1-under par total of 143, four shots clear of runner-up Ashton Rogers (147) of San Antonio Clark, the third-place team with a 637 tally.
Sir Bubba Jones placed fourth overall for the Lions with rounds of 77 and 74 for a 151 total. Caleb Modawell shot a 157 with an opening 77 and a closing 80, Peyton Sharp chipped in with a 164 thanks to an 81 and an 83, and Cobe Walker contributed a 167 with rounds of 83 and 84.
Competing as a medalist, Brownwood’s Will Stewardson posted a 181 with rounds of 92 Friday and 89 Saturday.
The Lions will be back in action at the State Preview in Kingsland Friday. March 8 and Saturday, March 9.
