The Brownwood Lady Lions and Lions both placed seventh in the final varsity team standings at the Brownwood Invitational cross country meet held Wednesday morning at Gordon Wood Stadium.
In a 25-team field, the Lady Lions generated 201 points which left them behind Goldthwaite (52), Hamilton (72), Christoval (121), Wall (151), Roscoe (189) and Breckenridge (199).
Competing against 22 teams, the Lions produced 184 points which trailed Fredericksburg (71), Jim Ned (79), Breckenridge (106), Wall (142), Zephyr (145), and Hamilton (164).
Leading the way for the Lady Lions was Sidney Windham in fifth place in a time of 12:46.89 trailed by Emma Stegemoller (30th, 13:50.76), Braycee Lee (46th, 14:10.36), Kylea Karnes (58th, 14:22.44), Talia Craff (71st, 14:41.95), Alma Bernal (88th, 15:11.11), Haylee Adkins (113th, 15:41.51), and Kate Tindol (128th, 16:06.9).
Pacing the Lions’ effort were Bennett Windham in ninth place with a time of 18:01.19, followed by Noah Lambert (29th, 19:05.91), Caden Carnes (33rd, 19:14.35), Aidan Pena (46th, 19:48.66), Easton Judkins (75th, 20:46.95), Dayton Zamora (103rd, 22:05.28), Mark Martinez (122nd, 22:51.35), and Ty Tindol (140th, 24:13.11).
Goldthwaite’s Emily Bartek won the varsity girls race in a time of 12:20.08, while Jim Ned’s Samuel Bryan finished first among varsity boys in a 16:04.82 clip.
The Zephyr Bulldogs’ fifth-place team performance featured Eli Williams (7th, 17:54.2), James Evetts (18th, 18:46.91), Aaron Fagon (34th, 19:17.7), Riley McCuller (41st, 19:34.54), Reese Hamm (50th, 19:55.83), and Cash Whisenhunt (130th, 23:17.4).
The Bangs Dragons placed 14th in the varsity boys standings led by Brennan Mendieta (54th, 20:04.62), Zach Ferguson (72nd, 20:30.77), Colton Wagner (83rd, 21:04.36), Ben Perez (90th, 21:23.44), Noe Martinez (91st, 21:24.99), Jayden Gerstenberger (99th, 21:43.53), Weston Scantling (100th, 21:53.04), and Jackson Moore (133rd, 23:21.26).
The Early Longhorns came in 19th in the varsity boys standings as team members included Will Prochaska (70th, 20:24.35), J.D. Nowell (76th, 20:47.61), Zackary Rumfield (104th, 22:05.87), Kamden Gamblin (107th, 22:08.97), Cooper Schults (152nd, 25:33.92), Keegan Waldorf (168th, 29:51.52), and Jackson Nowell (171st, 34:29.55).
The Blanket Tigers were also represented by Abel McLaughlin (149th, 25:10.02) in the varsity boys division.
The Bangs Lady Dragons finished 20th as a team in the varsity girls race as runners included Joey Newton (12th, 13:06.21), Gentry Sheppard (123rd, 15:58.89), Julia Scantling (132nd, 16:10.81), Dyan McCurdy (143rd, 16:18.92), and Kirsten Poling (198th, 18:44.23).
The Early Lady Horns came in 22nd as a team in the varsity girls competition. Runners were Brooke Miller (69th, 14:41.02), Kayleigh Torrez (107th, 15:30.39), Adamari Ortega (127th, 16:06.46), Steely Fielder (151st, 16:29.59), Cali Vargas (163rd, 16:45.74), Gyselle Mariscal (168th, 17:01.41), Memorie Castro (187th, 17:57.98), and Mia Gomez (193rd, 18:18.78).
Competing for Zephyr in the varsity girls run were Avery Dozier (83rd, 15:03.05), Kirstan King (119th, 15:53.88), Bella Baker (201st, 19:13.75), and Bethany Blair (211st, 22:25.9)
Blanket was represented in the varsity girls competition by Audyona Flores (81st, 15:02.1), Lexi French (110st, 15:35.8), and Dallas Moreno (191st, 18:09.86).
In JV action, the Lady Lions brought home the team championship behind a 27-point effort, with Ballinger (63) serving as the nearest competition in the six-squad event.
Brownwood’s Lyndi Biasiolli won the JV girls race in a time of a 14:31.01 while other Lady Lions competing included Montanna Ramsey (4th, 15:24.73), Kiara Delce (7th, 16:00), Madison Weckwerth (14th, 16:37.28), Kyle Arocha (17th, 16:58.21), Autumn Reeves (26th, 17:24.02), Izzie Mendez (46th, 19:08.65), and Maddie Hampton (51st, 20:07.69).
Jim Ned won the JV boys draw with 17 points, while Early was the only other school with enough runners to comprise a team and placed second with 46 points.
Running for Brownwood in the JV boys competition were Braylon Harvey, who came in second in a time of 20:58.69, followed by fellow Lions Valente Cardenas (5th, 21:42.67), Kayden Hernandez (10th, 22:17.24), and Calder Damron (16th, 23:12.66).
