Behind some of their most crisp volleyball of the season, the Brownwood Lady Lions jumped out to a two-set advantage in their pre-district finale Friday afternoon at Warren Gym, only to witness the Class 5A Abilene Cooper Lady Cougars roar back and snatch a five-set victory.
The Lady Lions’ 22-25, 18-25, 25-18, 25-21, 15-12 setback brought their record to 13-13 heading into the Friday, Sept. 27 District 6-4A opener at Brock.
On the offensive end for Brownwood Friday, Aniah Hines and Aubrie Felux led the way with 10 kills apiece followed by Hannah Deen with eight, Demayha Hooker and Miranda Northcutt with four apiece, Trinity Roberts with three and Icess Hall with one.
Hall finished with 17 assists while Hines contributed 15 and Northcutt and Laine Johnson were credited with one each.
Felux’s three aces were a team-high trailed by a pair from Johnson and one apiece by Hall and Jakayla Peek.
On the defensive end, Johnson and Felux both registered 11 digs followed by Maddi Scott with nine, Hines, Hall and Sara Stubblefield with eight each, Deen with five, Peek with two, and Hooker and Northcutt with one each.
At the net, Roberts and Northcutt both collected three blocks while Hines collected one.
