The ever-evolving lineup for the Brownwood Lady Lions is going through another phase of change due to the continued absence of Aubrie Felux – among the team leaders in almost every statistical category – as the Brock Lady Eagles rolled to a 25-4, 25-16, 25-4 victory at Warren Gym Thursday night.
The Lady Lions (13-19, 0-6) reshuffled rotation, as Felux is out with an illness, struggled to find traction the entire night. The second set, however, was a bright spot, according to Lady Lions second-year head coach Cheyenne Lovelady.
“Brock is a really good team, and the girls made some adjustments from when we played them at their house,” Lovelady said. “Overall our second set looked really good, but we started slow and ended on a slower note. The second set we played pretty well and looked a lot better.”
Aniah Hines led Brownwood with four kills followed by Hannah Deen with three and Miranda Northcutt, Inylah Hall, Trinity Roberts and Demayha Hooker with one apiece.
Icess Hall dished out seven assists while Hines contributed one.
Deen served a team-high four aces and Lanie Johnson chipped in one.
Defensively, Johnson recorded a team-best nine digs trailed by Deen with six, Hines with four, Maddi Scott and Icess Hall with three each, Jentry Coalson with two and Roberts with one.
At the net, Inylah Hall and Hines each logged a block.
Brownwood has four District 6-4A games remaining on its schedule in the quest for its first postseason berth since 2021, beginning with a trip to Glen Rose Friday.
As for what she wants to see from the Lady Lions the rest of the way, Lovelady said, “We’ve changed a lot of things and had a lot of curve balls thrown at us from sicknesses to injuries which led to new rotations here and there. I think just bringing it all together, I know we’re right on the edge, we’re practicing really hard and if we can get this rotation down and set, hopefully bring Aubrie back, we have a chance to beat these teams at the end of district.”
