The Brownwood High School cross country teams hosted the annual Brownwood Invitational Wednesday in and around Gordon Wood Stadium, where the Lady Lions placed fifth as a team and the Lions came in 11th place. Also competing from Brown County was Bangs, as the Lady Dragons finished 10th and the Dragons were 14th.
The Lady Lions finished with 149 points, which trailed only Christoval (74), Goldthwaite (78), Ballinger (81), and Mason (86). Sixth through ninth place in the 20-team field included Wall (173), De Leon (200), Gatesville (221), and Breckenridge (262), while Bangs was 10th with 280 points.
Sidney Windham paced the Brownwood effort as she came in 10th place out of 153 runners in a time of 13:04.67. Also running for the Lady Lions were Kate Tindol (13th, 13:16.49), Braycee Lee (34th, 13:37.42), Kylea Karnes (45th, 13:51.09), Miranda Northcutt (47th, 13:53.18), Talia Craft (48th, 13:53.71), Alma Bernal (55th, 13:59.87) and Mia Lara (83rd, 14:35.1).
Lady Dragons participants included Joey Newton (14th, 13:17.57), Rylie Guerrero (44th, 13:50.23), Dyan McCurdy (64th, 14:08.51), Jensine Stephens (81st, 14:32.12), Gentry Sheppard (86th, 14:39.33), Julia Scantling (112nd, 15:45.32), Kirsten Poling (114th, 15:46.6), Olivia Kelly (121st, 15:56.53), Justice Baker (126th, 16:04.43), and Keeli Gordon (127th, 16:05.41).
The Lions netted 267 points to come in 11th while the Dragons posted 326 points in their 14th-place effort. The top five varsity boys teams were Gatesville (43), Wall (80), Jim Ned (129), Christoval (133) and Goldthwaite (181).
Luke Gray sparked the Lions with an 11th place time of 17:46.85 out of 133 runners, followed by Caleb Nelson (20th, 18:09.37), Noah Pyle (76th, 21:00.94), Braylon Harvey (101st, 22:25.16), and Ty Tindol (115th, 24:20.53).
Running for the Dragons were Rex Guerrero (51st, 19:51.19), Ben Perez (77th, 21:02.91), Noe Martinez (80th, 21:08.61), Weston Scantling (87th, 21:38.39), Austin Loyd (117th, 24”35.19), Ryan Dickey (118th, 24:36.28), Jackson Moore (119th, 24:36.84), and Aden Jones (126th, 27:30.81).
In JV action, the Lady Lions placed second as a team. There were not enough Brownwood boys for a JV squad. Bangs did not compete in either JV division.
