The Brownwood Lady Lions scored the first two runs of the game, but the Breckenridge Lady Bucks roared back for a 9-2 victory in non-district softball action Friday.
Brownwood (5-3) yielded four runs in the top of the fourth inning, three more in the fifth and a pair in the seventh after tallying solo runs in each of the first two frames.
Breckenridge (5-5) finished with eight hits and drew two walks against Brownwood pitcher Annie-Klein Allgood, who yielded three earned runs in seven innings. The Lady Lions defense committed three errors behind her.
Offensively, the Lady Lions were limited to three hits by Breckenridge pitcher Chloe Whitmire, who struck out 11 and walked four.
Allgood and Mia Lopez singled and drove in runs for Brownwood, while Peyton Pena added a double and crossed the plate once.
Brownwood took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first as Chloe Walls reached on an error, Lopez drew a walk and Allgood followed with an RBI single. With two on and no outs, the Lady Lions could not scratch across another run.
In the bottom of the second, Pena led off with a double, Jeniffer Ramero walked with one out, and Lopez’s two-out RBI single past first base plated Pena.
Breckenridge tallied all the runs it needed in the fourth and three straight singles to start the frame by Emma Williams, Elena Arellano and Joni Jackson – the last of which cut the deficit to 2-1. With one out, Brittney Melton reached on an error and two runs scored. Cara Schkade followed with an RBI ground out that resulted in a 4-2 lead for the Lady Bucks.
Brownwood returns to action Saturday with two final games in the Llano tournament.
