The Brownwood Lady Lions were able to shave a five-run deficit to one, but the Glen Rose Lady Tigers regrouped and pulled away for a 14-8 District 6-4A softball triumph Friday night.
Down 7-2 heading to the bottom of the fourth inning, the Lady Lions struck for four runs. Brownwood remained down by a single run until the sixth inning, where Glen Rose erupted for five more to reclaim a 12-6 lead.
The Lady Lions (8-11, 2-3) added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth, but got no closer as they fell victim to a district sweep at the hands of the Lady Tigers (15-11, 3-2) as both teams kicked off the second half of league competition.
Brownwood finished with nine hits – two each from Jeniffer Romero, Peyton Pena and Mykaela Mendoza, and one apiece by Chloe Walls, Tynlea Wilson and Karina Mata. Wilson recorded a pair of RBIs while Mata, Romero and Carlee Burks were each credited with one. The Lady Lions also drew two walks and were aided by four Glen Rose errors.
In the circle, Wilson gave up 11 earned runs on 17 hits with six strikeouts and four walks. The Brownwood defense was also tagged with four miscues.
Brownwood will attempt to bounce back at 6 p.m. Monday as it visits Mineral Wells (10-18, 1-4), which has dropped four straight league contests including a 9-8 outing against the Lady Lions on March 22.
