The Brownwood Lady Lions posted a 2-1 record at the Brownwood Coliseum Thursday to earn second place in Pool A and a spot in Saturday’s six-team gold championship bracket of the Heart of Texas volleyball tournament.
The Lady Lions started the day with a 25-20, 23-25, 15-9 victory over Early, followed with a 25-16, 25-17 triumph over Abilene TLCA, but ended Thursday action with a 25-16, 25-11 loss to the Abilene Wylie JV.
Brownwood’s next match will be 9 a.m. Saturday at the Brownwood Coliseum against the Pool B runner-up, either Bangs, Brady, Fort Worth Covenant or the Brownwood JV, who all play Friday.
In the three-set victory over Early, Aniah Hines led the offensive attack with 11 kills followed by Aubrie Felux with seven, Hannah Deen with four, Trinity Roberts with three, Demayha Hooker with two, and Miranda Northcutt with one.
Icess Hall dished out 16 assists trailed by Hines with seven and Maddi Scott with one.
Felux served a season-high nine aces with Roberts adding a pair and Hines contributing one.
Scott paced the defense with seven digs while Deen and Hall added six each, Hines and Peyton Pena tallied three apiece, and Northcutt notched one.
At the net, Roberts and Northcutt each registered a block.
The win over Abilene TLCA featured five kills from Deen, four apiece from Hines and Felux, three from Northcutt, a pair from Roberts and one from each from Hooker and Jenny Coalson.
Hall distributed eight assists, Coalson added four, and three each came from Hines, Scott, Northcutt.
Felux served three more aces, Deen chipped in two, and Hall, Scott and Jakayla Peek tacked on one each.
On the defensive end, Deen and Sara Stubblefield led the way with three digs each followed by Peek, Coalson and Scott with two apiece, and Felux, Hall and Northcutt each with one.
Northcutt and Roberts tallied Brownwood’s two blocks.
In the finale against the Wylie JV, Hines collected four kills trailed by two each from Deen and Roberts and one by Northcutt.
Hines and Hall finished with three assists apiece and Scott chipped in one, while Hines also served the lone ace.
Deen’s eight digs were a team-best trailed by six from Scott, three each from Hall and Roberts, and one apiece by Felux, Northcutt and Stubblefield.
At the net, Hines registered both Brownwood blocks.
