The 39th Annual Community Thanksgiving Feast at Howard Payne University was held on Thanksgiving Day, November 23, and was a huge success. It took place at HPU’s Mabee University Center, located at 1219 Fisk Street in Brownwood with North Lake Community Church in May leading and coordinating the event.
We caught up with Pastor Ron Keener of Northlake Community Church to get his thoughts about the event and how they became involved “Elaine and I have been participating in the Thanksgiving Feast for 14 years and this is the 3rd year for Northlake Community Church to lead the effort. When there was the retirement a few years ago of a key person, Bill Fishback, who had done this for years, Bill called me and asked if our church would take this over & we jumped at the opportunity because it is an opportunity for ministry and to touch lots of lives. Last year was great and we served 2336 people and this year was another big year. We had a tremendous turnout for the event and set an all- time record of 566 reserved delivery meals. We do this because there is a uniqueness in our community of giving, supporting & encouraging. People come here from all walks of life to Howard Payne University and the food is excellent. Thanks to HPU and their staff. This meal is a time for fellowship, visiting and seeing people you haven’t seen in a year. Brownwood is a giving & caring community, and we do this because we care.”
