The Brownwood Lady Lions were unable to the hand the Graham Lady Blues their first league loss, and a two-game win streak ended in the process as the result of a 7-1 setback Tuesday night.
The Lady Lions (9-10, 3-2) will visit Graham (18-4-2, 3-0) at 6:30 p.m. Thursday to wrap up their two-game District 6-4A softball series.
In Tuesday’s contest, the Lady Lions surrendered a pair of two-run home runs, while Graham pitchers Zoey Harrell and Reese Calhoun struck out 11 and stranded seven base runners.
The Lady Lions did tally eight hits – two each by Chloe Walls and Kyleigh Caperton and one apiece by Jeniffer Romero, Mackenzie Welch, Peyton Pena and Jakayla Peek.
In the circle, Caperton started and pitched the first inning, allowing two runs on two this with a a pair of walks. Tynlea Wilson hurled the final five innings and suffered five runs – four earned – one eight hits with five strikeouts and one walk. The Brownwood defense commited five errors.
Graham took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on two-run home run by Meagan Brooks. Then, in the third inning, Harrell went deep with a two-run blast ahead of a two-RBI triple by Jaysea Rickels to establish a 6-0 cushion.
The Lady Lions scored their lone run in the bottom of the third inning as Peek led off with a single, moved to second on a ground out, advanced to third on Romero’s one-out single, and scored on Caperton’s two-out RBI single to left field.
