Capping Friday night’s action was the Goldthwaite Lady Eagles 4×400 relay of Madison Wood, Hope Hermesmeyer, Rylie Hillis and Lainey Jernigan, who posted a championship time of 3:56.4, comfortably topping runner-up Panhandle (3:58.98).
Jernigan added two additional state championships in both the girls 100-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles.
In the 100-meter hurdles, Jernigan was clocked at 14.34, outlasting runner-up Anyya Mitchell of Lovelady (14.69). Finishing third in the race and capturing a bronze medal was Goldthwaite’s Hope Hermesmeyer (14.93).
In the 300-meter hurdles, Jernigan set a new 2A state meet record and finished in a time of 42.82, while Carly Land of Panhandle (43.43) was the runner-up.
For Coleman, Hunter Lackey secured a silver medal in the 2A boys discus with a best effort of 163-7. Lackey trailed only Luke Peacock of Haskell (172-9), as both competitors’ best throw came on their next to last attempt.
