Local firefighters were battling multiple grass fires around Brown County and the surrounding area Thursday afternoon into the evening.
As of 7 p.m., fires still active included one north of May in the area of Highway 183 and CR 496; one off Highway 279 just north of Lake Brownwood; and one near Bangs on CR 165. Earlier, a small fire was extinguished at Highway 377 and CR 613 just outside of Erly.
