EARLY – The Early Longhorns annihilated the winless Grape Creek Eagles, 69-0, Friday night en route to setting up a showdown with the Wall Hawks next week for the District 2-3A Division II championship.
Early (5-3, 3-0) limited Grape Creek (0-8, 0-3) to 51 yards of total offense – 31 rushing and 20 passing on 38 snaps – with one takeaway and eight punts forced.
Offensively for the Longhorns, a total of 526 yards of offense were produced – 332 passing with five touchdowns and 194 rushing and four more scores. Early led 27-0 after one quarter, 48-0 at halftime, and 62-0 through three frames.
Jaxyn Price completed 15 of 22 passes for 244 yards with four touchdowns. Justin Pierce added 88 yards and a touchdown through the air, while top receivers were Cedrick Morelan (4-43), John Stewart-Gordon (4-40), Jeremy Brown (3-92, 2 TDs). Ki Houston added two catches for 43 yards and a score, Reese Middleton amassed two grabs for 35 yards, Caleb McCullough contributed a 68-yard touchdown, and Sebastian Constancia pulled down an 11-yard touchdown catch.
The rushing game was sparked by Kaleb Ozuna’s 80 yards and a touchdown, Dillon Miller’s 58 yards and a trip to the end zone, Griffin Cheslock’s 44 yards and a score, Morelan found the end zone from 6 yards out, and Pierce added a 6-yard carry.
Brown also scored on an 83-yard kick return for Early.
Next week, the Longhorns venture to Wall (7-1, 3-0) – which drubbed San Angelo TLCA, 55-0, Friday night – for the District 2-3A Division II championship.
