GRAPE CREEK – The Early Longhorns chalked up their third straight victory, and second shutout in District 2-3A Division II action with a resounding 54-0 road victory over the Grape Creek Eagles Friday night.
The Longhorns led 27-0 at halftime, scoring two touchdowns in each of the first two quarters. Early tacked on three touchdowns in the third period and scored once more in the fourth quarter.
Defensively, the Longhorns yielded just 118 yards of total offense – 69 rushing and 49 passing – with one takeaway.
The Early offense’s 517-yard balanced attack featured 259 yards through the air and 258 on the ground.
Griffin Cheslock rushed for five touchdowns and 195 yards on 16 carries, while quarterback Rohyn Price chipped in 15 yards and a rushing score, and Ben Morris amassed 47 yards on the ground.
Price also connected on 15 of 23 passes for 205 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Weston Barton contributed a 54-yard touchdown on his lone pass attempt as well.
Reece Middleton caught both touchdown passes and finished with 97 yards receiving on four grabs. Barton pulled down four catches for 83 yards, Andrew Reedy finished with four catches for 51 yards, Ki Houston hauled in two catches for 16 yards and Cheslock made a pair of receptions that totaled 16 yards.
Next week, the Longhorns (4-4, 3-0) host Wall (6-2, 3-0) – which routed San Angelo TLCA (4-4, 1-2) by a 69-12 count Friday night – in a game that will determine the District 2-3A Division II championship. Early is seeking its first district crown since 2007.
