EARLY – The Early Longhorns snapped a four-game losing streak in their District 2-3A Division II opener Friday night, keeping the Ballinger Bearcats winless in the process with a 35-0 homecoming victory.
Early (2-4, 1-0) finished with 309 yards of total offense – 212 through the air and 97 on the ground – and turned the ball over just once after committing 15 turnovers in pre-district action.
Ballinger (0-6, 0-1) – coached by former Brownwood assistant Ty Lang – has now been outscored 273-12 this season and mustered just 44 total yards Friday, with 33 coming on the ground, to go along with coughing a pair of fumbles.
Homecoming King Griffin Cheslock rushed for 84 yards and three touchdowns on 15 carries for the Longhorns, while quarterback Rohyn Price connected on 14 of 19 passes for 212 yards with one scoring toss and one pick.
Weston Barton caught a team-best five passes for 93 yards and a touchdown for Early, while Andrew Reedy pulled down four receptions for 45 yards and Ki Houston finished with three grabs for 59 yards. Reece Middleton caught an 8-yard pass.
Kaleb Ozuna tacked on a 2-yard touchdown on the ground for Early on his lone carry.
Next week, the Longhorns will host Brady (2-4, 1-0), which picked up a 38-18 victory over San Angelo TLCA in district action Friday night.
