On their second day at the inaugural Heart of Texas volleyball tournament, the Early Lady Horns on Saturday earned a pair of victories at Brownwood High School’s Warren Gym to secure the silver bracket championship.
After posting a 1-2 record in pool play Thursday, the Lady Horns responded with victories of 25-7, 25-13 over Brady and 25-21, 25-10 over Coleman to take the top spot in the consolation bracket.
In the win over Brady, Jensyn Rasor and Ellie Shea led the attack with six kills apiece, followed by Tyley Simmons and Aubrie DeVillier with three each, and Piper Pedersen and Cassidy Frerichs each with one.
Grey Pruett dished out 11 assists while Frerichs added five.
DeVillier served a team-high four aces trailed by three each from Pruett and Shea and one by Gabby Benson.
Benson also recorded 10 digs followed by Shea with four, Pruett with three and Pedersen with a pair.
At the net, Simmons and Shea each tallied a block.
The silver bracket championship match against Coleman featured five kills from Rasor, four apiece from DeVillier and Shea, and one each from Pruett, Pedersen, Simmons and Frerichs.
Pruett again led the way with nine assists while Frerichs was credited with one. Shea and Pruett both served two aces and Pedersen and Simmons each tallied one.
Benson and DeVillier finished with a team-high five digs each followed by Shea, Frerichs and Hallie Thornberry with two apiece, and Simmons with one.
Shea logged Early’s two blocks.
The Lady Horns (6-6) will be back in action Tuesday as they host San Angelo Cornerstone Christian.
