The Brownwood High tennis team split a pair of non-district home matches Saturday, upending Snyder, 11-8, before falling to Wall, 17-2.
“We actually got to finish out the match with Snyder this time and I knew it would be close,” said Brownwood tennis head coach Crystal Blazek. “Snyder has improved and they have a lot of seniors so it was a good win.”
Brownwood started the action with victories in four doubles matches – the mixed tandem of Tatum Dehart and Taylor Wallace (6-4, 6-4 over Mary Kerr and Robert Turner), the No. 1 boys team of Peter Le and River Prado (6-2, 6-2 over Chris Moreno and Shad Hodge), the No. 1 girls doubles team of Victoria Ramos and Aishwayra Nigayle (6-2, 6-1 over Avery Schiffner and Morgan Chapman), and the No. 3 boys team of Taevion Nickerson and Eric Waldrop (6-1, 6-1 over Ean Terrazas and Nathan James).
Collecting singles wins for the Lions were No. 1 Le (6-2, 6-4 over Moreno), No. 4 Prado (6-3, 1-6, 10-6 over Andrew McGraw), and No. 5 Wallace (6-3, 6-2 over Tuner).
Tallying singles victories for the Lady Lions were No. 1 Ramos (6-0, 6-0 over Schiffner), No. 2 Nigalye (6-2, 6-2 over Chapman), No. 3 Dehart (6-4, 6-4 over Kerr), and No. 6 Emma Delgado (6-4, 7-5 over Jaylynn Guzman).
Against Wall, Brownwood wins were claimed by the mixed doubles team of Le and Ramos (6-2, 6-2 over Jonah Felger and Kennedy King) and Ramos in No. 1 girls singles (6-3, 6-1 over Grace Wilde). With the wins, Ramos improved to 11-0 on the season.
“I know the score of 17-2 doesn’t sound great but I thought overall we competed,” Blazek said. “We made them play. Wall is a solid program that has state winners and qualifiers on it.”
The Lions and Lady Lions (5-2) will be back in action at 4 p.m. Thursday as they host San Angelo Lake View.
