The Brownwood High tennis team played their first matches on the new courts at BHS Saturday, earning a 15-4 victory over Gatesville followed by a 13-5 loss to China Spring.
In the victory over Gatesville, Brownwood swept the doubles matches with victories by Tyler Mitchell and Wesley Goodrich (6-2, 5-7, 10-5 over Martinez and Hardcastle), Caleb Dietlin and Trine Baugh (6-0, 6-2 over Crawford and Rainer), River Prado and Dietlin (8-0 over Martinez and Hardcastle) and Aiden Oplotnik and Andre Martinez (6-2, 2-6, 10-8 over Crawford and Reiner).
Notching doubles wins for the girls were Emily Ochoa and Jazzmyn Sanchez (6-7 [6], 6-4, 10-4 over Shaw and Ochoa) and Emma Delgado and Sanchez (8-6 over Rogers and Kizer).
In mixed doubles play, Brownwood wins were earned by Eric Smith and Claire Meinecke (6-1, 4-6, 10-4 over Armstrong and Sanchez), Eric Waldrop and Makenzie Williams (6-4, 6-4 over Harney and Szustak) and Mitchell and Meinecke (8-4 over Harney and Szustak).
Singles wins for the Lions belonged to Prado (6-2, 6-2 over Abraham Almendariz), Blake Hutchins (6-0, 6-2 over Zach Stevens and 1-6, 6-4, 10-4 over Almendariz) and Baugh (6-1, 6-1 over Stevens).
For the Lady Lions, collecting singles victories were Delgado (6-4, 6-4 over Olivia Walker) and Ann Daniel (8-3 over Ally Nichols).
In the match against China Spring, Brownwood picked up boys singles wins from Prado (6-2, 6-1 over Braden Carlin and 8-3 over David Martinez), and Hutchins (8-6 over Carlin).
Brownwood also tacked on a pair of girls doubles victories earned by Daniel and Delgado (6-4 over Escobar and Ondracek) and Ochoa and Sanchez (6-2, 2-6, 10-7).
The next action for the Brownwood tennis team is Feb. 9 as the Lions and Lady Lions are back at home for a quad meet.
