The Brownwood High tennis team slipped to 1-1 in District 6-4A competition and 7-4 on the season with a narrow 10-9 home loss to Lampasas Thursday evening.
The Lions won four of six singles matches and two of three doubles contests, while the Lady Lions chipped in one singles and one doubles victory. Brownwood also captured the mixed doubles matches.
Leading the way in boys singles were No. 1 Peter Le (6-1, 6-3 over Shaw), No. 2 River Prado (6-2, 6-2 over Vazquez), No. 3 Jacob Singleton (6-1, 6-0 over Rogers), and No. 5 Taevion Nickerson (1-6, 6-2, 10-4 over Champion).
Boys doubles triumphs belonged to No. 2 Prado and Tyler Mitchell (6-2, 6-7[5], 10-1 over Rogers and Champion) and No. 3 Singleton and Eric Waldrop (6-4, 7-6[9], 10-5 over Ashfield and Ecker).
In the girls ranks, No. 1 doubles duo Emma Delgado and Raylei Hickey (4-6, 6-1, 10-4 over Valdez and Zapata) landed in the win column, as did No. 5 Ashlyn Bundick (6-2, 6-4 over Vincent) in singles competition.
The mixed doubles victory belonged to Eric Smith and Ihana Figueroa (6-1, 6-3 over Venegas and Hodges).
The Lions and Lady Lions will be back in non-district tennis action Saturday with a doubleheader at Liberty Hill against College Station and Liberty Hill. League play resumes Sept. 29 at reigning 6-4A champion Gatesville.
