The Brownwood High tennis team chalked up its most lopsided victory of the season on Thursday afternoon, crushing San Angelo Lake View by an 18-1 count in front of a hometown crowd.
“I felt like we played well,” said Brownwood High tennis head coach Crystal Blazek, whose team improved to 6-2 in the fall campaign. “We beat them 15-4 last time and 18-1 this time and they had the same line up, but we were actually down one girl. This shows the kids are working hard and we’re just trying to get better everyday.”
The Lady Lions swept all nine of their matches, starting with three doubles wins by the No. 1 team of Aishwayra Nigayle and Tatum Dehart (6-1, 6-0 over Analeah Zamarron and Gabbie Flores), the No. 2 duo of Emma Delgado and Raylei Hickey (6-1, 6-1 over Liz Mota and Kim Toscano), and the No. 3 tandem of Claire Meinecke and Lyric Shaw (6-1, 6-1 over Samantha Perez and Tamzin Marker).
In singles action, girls collecting victories were No. 1 Victoria Ramos (6-0, 6-0 over Zamarron), No. 2 Nigayle (6-1, 6-2 over Flores), No. 3 Dehart (6-2, 6-1 over Mota), No. 4 Madalyn Scull (6-2, 6-2 over Toscano), No. 5 Delgado (6-1, 6-0 over Marker), and No. 6 Hickey (6-0, 6-0 over Perez)
On the boys side, the Lions went undefeated in singles competition with triumphs earned by No. 1 Peter Le (6-4, 7-5 over Erik Ruiz), No. 2 Dillon Gatlin (6-0, 6-4 over Luke Hartin), No. 3 Nathan Ramos (4-6, 6-3, 10-3 over Freddie Saucedo), No. 4 River Prado (6-0, 6-3 over Chase Daniel), No. 5 Taylor Wallace (6-1, 6-0 over Seth Rangel), and No. 6 Eric Waldrop (6-4, 6-3 over Keirdan Sherman).
The Lions added two doubles wins from No. 2 team Prado and Taevion Nickerson (6-3, 6-2 over Saucedo and Daniel) and No. 3 duo Waldrop and Wesley Goodrich (7-5, 6-0 over Rangel and Jaidan Albia).
Brownwood also earned the mixed doubles victory, claimed by Le and Ramos (6-0, 6-0 over Sherman and Adamaris Rangel).
The Lions and Lady Lions are off until Sept. 9 when they visit Glen Rose in the District 6-4A opener.
