The Brownwood Lions and Lady Lions will be represented by 8 entries at the Region I-4A track and field meet next weekend at Texas Tech University based on Friday’s performance at the 5-4A/6-4A area meet held at Gordon Wood Stadium.
Capturing area championships for Brownwood were the Lions 4×200 relay team of Tyse Savage, Jordyn Nickerson, Brayden Daub and Jake Jetton, which was clocked at 1:29.55; Savage in the 200 meters, who ran a 22.1; and Toby Yeates in the 110-meter hurdles, who was timed at 15.48.
Advancing as a runner-up in the boys high jump was Thad Hinds, who cleared 6-2.
Brownwood’s four remaining qualifiers all finished third in their respective events – Jetton in the 200 meters (22.53), Weston Burns in the boys pole vault (11-6), the Lady Lions 4×200 relay team of Talia Clifton, Braycee Lee, Kate Tindol and Sidney Windham (1:49.63) and the Lady Lions 4×400 relay team of Windham, Tindol, Kynslee Walker and Lee (4:15.81).
The top four finishers in each event will take part in the regional meet Friday, April 29 and Saturday, April 30.
The Lions finished fourth as a team with 63 points while Stephenville (174) won the boys team title. The Lady Lions came in eighth with 27 points, while Stephenville (162) took home the girls team championship as well.
