BRADY – The Early Longhorns slipped to 0-3 in District 5-3A Division II football action Friday night with their seventh consecutive loss overall, 42-15 at the hands of the Brady Bulldogs.
The Longhorns (1-7, 0-3) trailed Brady (7-1, 3-0) by a 13-8 count after one quarter, 21-8 at halftime and 28-8 heading into the fourth period.
Early finished with 244 yards of total offense – 167 rushing and 77 passing – but turned over the ball three times. Brady generated 428 yards, with 328 coming on the ground, and lost one fumble.
Leading the charge for the Longhorns was Cameron Love with 103 rushing yards and both Early touchdowns. Quarterback Weston Barton added 51 yards on the ground and completed 8 of 17 passes for 77 yards with three interceptions. Braden Moya led the Longhorns with three catches for 36 yard and Ben Bleth added two grabs for 23 yards, while Andrew Reedy managed just two catches totaling 6 yards.
For the Early defense, Kaedan Byrd logged 15 tackles trailed by Angel Marquez with nine, Mario Vasquez with eight and Brayden Schafer and Rhett Williams with six tackles apiece. Logan Jackson recovered the fumble for the Longhorns.
Brady received 137 rushing yards and two touchdowns from Johnny Menefield and 120 yards on the ground and three scores from Ashton Taylor. Quarterback Sean Jacoby completed all 10 of his passes for 100 yards and added 48 yards rushing, while Ashton Ramsey caught a team-high four passes for 38 yards.
Nasir Menefield led the Bulldogs with nine tackles, Demarcus Reed tallied a pair of sacks, and Gauge Evans intercepted a pair of passes for Brady.
Next week, Early hosts Eastland (3-5, 0-3), which is coming off a 35-28 loss to Dublin, while Brady heads to Tolar (7-1, 3-0), fresh off a 41-0 win over Clifton, in a battle for first place in District 5-3A Division II.
