Bangs to face Brownwood in HOT gold bracket after placing second in pool

The Bangs Lady Dragons won two of their three Pool B matches Friday at the Brownwood Coliseum to earn a spot in the gold bracket of the Heart of Texas volleyball tournament.

The Lady Dragons knocked off Brady, 25-18, 25-10, fell to pool champion Fort Worth Covenant Classical Academy, 25-9, 25-15, and rebounded with a 25-17, 25-18 triumph over the Brownwood JV.

Bangs (6-5) will next square off with Brownwood (4-6) at 9 a.m. Saturday in a gold bracket showdown.

In Friday morning’s victory over Brady, the Lady Dragons scored the first five points of the initial set on kills by Kasey Solis and Neeley Bradley, along with a couple of Bradley service aces.

Brady crept within 9-6 at one point, but Bangs answered with seven of the next nine points to pad the cushion to 16-8. Bradley added two more kills, Solis tallied one, and unforced Brady errors led to the rest of the points.

Consecutive aces from Cameryn Harman pushed the Lady Dragons’ lead to the largest point of the opening set at 22-13.

The second set featured seven consecutive points for Bangs after Brady secured the first. Ava Boren notched a kill, Bradley served another ace, and Brady miscues aided the Lady Dragons in establishing a 7-1 edge.

Brady closed the gap to 7-4, but Solis served six consecutive points, with three coming on aces, as the Lady Dragons opened a comfortable 14-4 advantage.

Leading 17-8, an ace from Julianna Ethridge triggered another string of points for Bangs, which boosted its lead to 21-8.

A tip at the net from Bradley and a service ace by Cloey Petty secured the final two points of the match for Bangs.
