Bangs (1-4, 0-1) finished with 398 yards of total offense – 208 rushing and 190 passing – without a turnover, but was unable to keep pace with the De Leon (4-1, 1-0) offense.
Ethan Ethridge rushed for 100 yards and a pair of touchdowns for the Dragons, while Kenny Cole completed 19 of 35 passes for 190 yards, including a touchdown to Hunter Newton who grabbed nine receptions for 116 yards.
Cole also rushed for 94 yards while Skylar Minshew caught three passes for 26 yards and added 14 yards rushing, Kade Minshew pulled down four receptions for 30 yards, and Brayden Gatlin contributed two catches for 18 yards.
Defensively for the Dragons, Hunter Crowell led the way with 14 tackles and a forced fumble, followed by Ethridge with eight tackles; Newton with 6.5 tackles; Sergio Lopez and Weston Scantling with five tackles each; Cole with four; Kade Minshew and Cason Tidwell with three apiece; Brody Newton with two; and Skylar Minshew, Hunter Withers, and Gatlin with one tackle each.
The Dragons’ district bye falls next week as Bangs resumes its 5-2A Division I slate Oct. 6 at Goldthwaite (2-3, 0-1), which fell to Coleman, 46-33, in its league opener Friday night.
