The Brownwood Lady Lions concluded their pre-district softball schedule with a 22-10 loss to Class 5A Abilene Cooper Friday night, the fifth straight setback for the maroon and white prior to Tuesday’s District 6-4A opener at home against Glen Rose.
The Lady Lions (8-8) yielded four runs in the first inning and three more in the third, then Cooper erupted with eight runs in the fourth inning and seven more in the sixth. Brownwood scored two in the first inning, three times each in the second and sixth frames, and added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
Brownwood pitchers Annie-Klein Allgood and Tynlea Wilson combined to yield 10 earned runs on 18 hits with five strikeouts and two walks.
Offensively, the Lady Lions tallied a dozen hits – three from Chelsey Covey, who drove in three; from Allgood, who knocked in two; two from Chloe Walls, who added an RBI; one by Peyton Pena, who plated two; one by Mackenzie Welch, who logged an RBI; and one by Cecilia Rodriguez.
Glen Rose visits at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the league opener.
