Sammy Burnett takes a pie to the face video
As of 9 a.m. Monday, the total amount of money raised for the 47th Annual KOXE/KBWD Cherry Pie Auction stood at $15,300, according to City of Brownwood Sports Coordinator Robert Anders.
Held Saturday at the Adams Street Community Center, the Cherry Pie Auction benefits youngsters who participate in Brownwood Freshman League Baseball, the Brownwood Girls Softball Association, Cen-Tex Soccer, and Soccer for Fun. More than 1,500 boys and girls participate, and every penny raised goes directly to those youth sports programs.
For the second time in its history, and first time in 45 years, Hall of Fame broadcaster Dallas Huston made his own cherry pie for the auction.
Among the sports items up for bid were autographed golf balls by Jordan Spieth and Lee Trevino, autographed baseballs by Nolan Ryan and Adrian Beltre, autographed golf caps by Rickie Fowler and Hideki Matsuyami, a DeMarcus Ware autographed football and mini-helmet, an autographed Emmitt Smith rookie card, an autographed Ricky Williams University of Texas football helmet, and an autographed shirt by former NFL star and Brownwood native Kenny Vaccaro.
Also, Brownwood Lions head football coach/athletic director Sammy Burnett took two pies in the face Monday morning at KOXE based on donations given late Saturday.
Special thanks to Street Dreams Car Club, which put on a car show and provided free hot dogs, while Pops ice cream truck offered free ice cream.
