Larry Ray Evans, 78, of Brownwood passed away Saturday, February 8, 2020.  A Memorial service will be held 1:00 PM, Monday, February 17, 2020 at the First Baptist Church, 208 Austin Ave, Brownwood, TX 76801 with Dr. Mike Lundy officiating.

Larry was born in Meridian, Texas to Jessie Cecil and Hazel Evans on December 13, 1941.  He graduated from Grapevine High School and attended Howard Payne University where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree.  He served in the US Navy for 6 years and married his sweetheart, Judith Anne Bragg on March 5, 1965.  They were stationed in Hawaii with the Navy for a while and returned to Grapevine when his service was over.  Larry started a construction business with his dad building and remodeling houses.  He continued to work in construction all over Texas, retiring in Brownwood.  Larry was a detail oriented and creative woodworker that created beautiful furniture and items that he would dream up.  He was also very creative in the kitchen where he loved to spend time cooking and doctoring recipes.  It was always delicious.  Larry had a recipe for the best Cheesecake, second to none, that he never changed or altered.  Larry loved to go camping in the mountains, hunting and fishing.  He took the kids fishing and always insisted that they must be extremely quiet while doing so.  Laura says she now questions whether it was that important for the fishing, or if her dad had ulterior motives.  His passions in life were reading and travel.  Larry loved his family and put his heart into raising, providing and spending time with his children, grandchildren and friends.  Larry always had a smile on his face.  He had a great outlook on life and it was contagious to be around him.  People just loved him because of he was so loving and giving with great spirits.

Larry is survived by his wife, Judy Evans of Brownwood; son, Curtis and wife Ginger Evans of Abilene; daughters, Laura Evans of Austin and Jennifer Evans of Brownwood; grandson, Cole Rasco of Los Angeles, California; granddaughters, Hannah Evans of Abilene and Erin Cooper of Austin; nephew, Gary Venable of Grapevine; niece, Jana Thomas of Fort Worth, Carla Scott of Corpus Christi and Lynn Venable of Lago Vista, Texas; numerous nieces, nephews, coworkers and friends.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Norma Jean Worcester; and brother, James Carl Evans.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Larry’s name.

Condolences, Memorials and tributes can be made to the family at www.heartlandfuneralhome.net
