On Saturday, May 20, 2017, at approximately 12:25 p.m., Brownwood Police Officers were called to a home in the 300 block N. Greenleaf Street for a reported shooting. Upon arrival, responding officers located one male subject in a residence suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers were informed a person involved with the shooting had fled the scene on foot towards the City of Early.
A Brown County Sheriff’s Office Deputy and Early Police Department Officer located and detained Preston Dilon Browne, W/M, 25 years of age, on CC Woodson Road near S. Broadway Street in Brownwood. Browne was arrested at that time and transported to the Brown County Jail. He is currently being charged with Tampering with or Fabricating Physical Evidence, a Third Degree Felony and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, also a Third Degree Felony.
The 29 year-old male victim was flown to Hendrick Hospital in Abilene in critical condition by Air Evac.
This is an ongoing investigation. The Brownwood Police Department Criminal Investigation Division is leading the investigation and is being assisted by the Abilene Police Department and Early Police Department. The name of the victim is not being released at this time.

Brownwood News – Brownwood Police and emergency first responders were called to the 300 block of Greenleaf around noon regarding an attempted homicide. The suspect had fled the scene on foot and was considered armed and dangerous.
Little information is known at this point, but one individual was reportedly shot in the head. A medical helicopter landed at the Brownwood Coliseum to care-flight the person for emergency care.

Brownwood Police Officers located the suspect, 25 year old Preston Browne, running through brush near the area. Browne was detained at gunpoint and allegedly reported to officers he had “thrown the gun in the Pecan Bayou.”
Officers arrested Preston Browne, charged with Tampering with Evidence, and transported him to the Brown County Jail.
Preston Browne pled guilty to the felony offense of Assault Family Violence-Occlusion in November 2012 and was sentenced to 4 years, Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Institutional Division.
In August 2016, the Brown County Sheriff’s Office arrested 24-year-old Preston Dilon Browne of Brownwood for possession of a controlled substance penalty group 1 less than 1 gram.
