The final day of the 59th Brown County Youth Fair was full of activity, starting with the horse show, loading up animals, naming the Miss Brown County Fair Association, and the main event – the awards and premium sale.

The foggy, drizzly morning couldn’t stop Brown County’s young horse exhibitors.  Everyone was dressed their best and accompanied by their gorgeous horses.

The judge for the day was Cody Copeland of Stephenville, Texas.  Copeland has been a professional horseman for ten years and grew up showing horses in Brown County.  Copeland stressed that showmanship is very important and it’s not just about how you are dressed but about handling your horse, knowing how to set them up, following the showmanship pattern and being knowledgeable about the animal to answer any questions from0 the judge.

After the horse show, the work began.  The show arena had to be cleared of all the wood shavings, swept and decorated for the big night.  The auction and premium sale began at 5:00pm.  The Miss Brown County Fair Association was named and then the awards and bidding started.  Many local businesses came out to support the kids of Brown County.

Thanks to the support of the community and the hard work of all the Brown County Youth Fair Association Board members and volunteers, parents, vocational agriculture teachers, extension agents, and donations of those to support the youth fair, the week was quite a success for the kids.

Congratulations to all of the participants of the many events.  If the judges of all the livestock shows are right in their predictions, be looking for winners from Brown County at the major shows such as the Houston Livestock Show and the Fort Worth Stock Show.  Brown County had some high quality livestock and great showmen in the ring this week.  Best wishes to those who go on to the major shows!
