On Sunday, May 24, 2020, Leonard Robert “Bob” Hayes, loving husband and father of two sons, left this earth and joined his wife on the streets of Glory. He was 85 years old.

Bob was born July 10, 1934, in Ellendale, North Dakota to Leonard Ulmont Hayes and Ethyl Ruth (Peterson) Hayes. He married the love of his life, Margaret Ann Sanders, on January 30, 1956, at Jones Grove Baptist Church in Oklahoma City.

Bob was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. After his discharge in 1957, he joined the west Texas building boom as a carpenter, the profession he would continue throughout his life.

He lived in North Dakota, South Dakota, and Oklahoma, but spent the majority of his life in Odessa, Texas. He and his wife moved to Brownwood in 2004, where they spent their remaining years.

Bob always supported his sons. He had a tremendous influence on them and their friends to be upstanding young men. He served as a little league coach and attended numerous sporting events. He never missed a band concert.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; three sisters, Betty Pittman, Darlein Dale and Judy Dorris; and one brother, Leslie Hayes.

He is survived by sons, Rickey Lenn “Rick” Hayes of Brownwood, and Robert Randall “Randy” Hayes and wife Sheri of Whitney;  three granddaughters, Nicole Gowan of Keller, Alisa Hayes of Brownwood, and Chelsei Vigil of Waco; four great-grandchildren, Jeremy Hauser, Hayden Hauser, Elijah Key, and Madison Vigil; and one sister,  Lorna Owens of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was also blessed with a host of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be conducted at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood. Online condolences for the family are welcome at www.blaylockfuneralhome.com.
