Brownwood News – The Brown County Youth Fair is now a week away but one Brown County exhibitor has already had outstanding success in the show ring this year.
Madellyne Adams, daughter of Skip and Shey Adams, is a senior at Zephyr High School and a 10-year member of Brown County 4-H. Out of more than 3,000 lambs entered at the State Fair of Texas Livestock Show this year, Madellyne exhibited the Grand Champion Lamb. “My lamb’s name was Pharoh, I’d worked with him since the previous May. I knew he was special. He was my little buddy that ran with me in the barn. I worked with him every single day,” Madellyne told us recently during a visit at the Brown County Extension Office. “The thought of ever getting to win a major with a lamb, it was extremely crazy, but I knew I could work for it and I knew that I had a shot with him.” Madellyne said she started showing lambs her freshman year but she’s mainly a cattle exhibitor. “I just never really dreamed that my first major win would be with a lamb,” Madellyne said. With hard work and family support, it all paid off in a big way. “I felt proud because I knew that I had my family behind me and we’ve been waiting for that day for so long. When he (judge) shook my hand, I heard the whole crowd cheering and it was like just a wave of excitement, blessed, proud of myself and proud of the way that I got there,” Madellyne said. Banners, a buckle and a nice payday followed at the stock show sale.
But wait, there’s more. The following week, Madellyne returned to Dallas to exhibit her heavyweight exotic named Yellowstone. She placed 2nd in her class and made the show sale again.

Next up, Madellyne will be joined by fellow Brown County 4-H Senior Livestock Judging Team members who include her sister Ashtyn Adams, Hayden Schroeder and Blaze Cozart in Phoenix, Arizona today (12/30) for a judging contest. After that, stock shows in Odessa, Brown County, Austin, Fort Worth, San Angelo, San Antonio and Houston are on the schedule. Look for Madellyne in the show ring with steers, lambs and goats at the Brown County Youth Fair.
Her future plans, after graduation, include attending South Plains College to be a part of their Livestock Judging Team.
