With loved ones at his side, George Truett Griffin, 96, of Early peacefully went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, December 17, 2019.
Celebration of George’s life will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 28, 2019, at Blaylock Funeral Home Chapel with Shawn Griffin and Dr. Jason Burden officiating; burial will follow at Greenleaf Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Friday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Blaylock Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood.
George was born November 1, 1923, to Frank and Necie (Nicholson) Griffin in Brownwood. George met Nadene Parker on a Wednesday evening while she played the piano at Early First Baptist Church. He knew immediately she was the one. The two were married on June 2, 1946.
Private First Classman, George Griffin served in the Army during World War II, serving in Italy and North Africa. He served as a Gideon and a deacon at Early First Baptist Church. George, his father Frank, and his brother Carl established Frank Griffin and Sons in 1946. Later George carried on the cabinet shop with son, Glen and grandsons, Tim and Truett Griffin.
George is survived by his: daughter, Gaye Fowler and husband Danny of Hico; son, Glen Griffin and wife Cathy of Early; grandchildren: David Fowler and wife Tarja, Vicki Steele and husband Todd, Kristi Burden and husband Jason, Jennifer Horner and husband Brandon, Angela Dorris and husband Allan, Shawn Griffin and wife Jaymi, Holly Allen, Zane Griffin, Zeb Griffin, Truett Griffin and wife Marie, Timothy Griffin and wife Rachel, Amanda Griffin Caperton; 26 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Nadene; his parents, Frank and Necie Griffin; son, Gary Griffin; and a granddaughter, Kelli Griffin; siblings: Othello, L.P., J.W., Doris and Carl.
