BrownwoodNews – Dwayne Grooms of Early has been named Howard Payne University’s Homecoming 2018 Grand Marshal. He is among eight who will be honored during HPU’s Homecoming 2018 festivities, November 2-3. Additional honorees are listed at www.hputx.edu/homecoming.

Grooms and the other honorees will be recognized during the Alumni & Sports Hall of Fame Banquet on Friday, November 2, beginning at 5:45 p.m. The honorees will also be featured in the Homecoming Parade on Saturday, November 3, beginning at 10 a.m. Ticket information for the banquet and a full schedule of the weekend’s events are available online at www.hputx.edu/homecoming.
After graduating from HPU in 1965 with a degree in education, Grooms also completed additional coursework at Texas A&M University. He has been a member of HPU’s Board of Trustees since 2011, currently serving on the Marketing and Communications Committee.
A member of First Baptist Church of Brownwood, Grooms has served as a deacon since the 1970s. He achieved prominence as a Brownwood businessman through his leadership of Grooms Seed. He also serves on the Brown County Farm Bureau Board and the Ag Committee for the Brown County Appraisal District.
He is married to Barbara (Smith) Grooms, a 1959 HPU graduate. The couple has two children, LeAnna (deceased) and David, and two grandchildren. David’s wife, Wendy Grooms, is associate professor of mathematics at HPU.
