Jerry Shepherd, owner and operator of Triple T Grill in south Brownwood, plans to retire soon and is looking for someone to take over the operational reigns at Triple T.
Serving burgers, fries, shakes and other familiar favorites at Triple T for 21 years, Shepherd says “serving the customers and getting to know them” has been one of his favorite memories.
Shepherd is the second owner of the grill, buying it from Bill Fielder in the late 90’s. “He opened it in ’82, and I bought it in ’97, so I’ve owned it longer than he did! A small business with two owners in 36 years ain’t bad!”
Moving to Brownwood in 1978 as a Kroger management employee; Shepherd came to the area to open the now defunct grocery. He fell in love with the town and returned after being transferred back to the metroplex for a decade.
He then began investing in several local businesses, opening “Jerry’s Stop n Shop” on the Brady Highway in October of 1990. Jerry’s Burgers came in 1992, Triple T, Mr Gatti’s in Early, a steakhouse in Santa Anna and several other businesses and investments followed.
Jerry’s Burgers and the storage buildings behind the restaurant in Early will continue to operate for the time being, as he plans to keep the storage business. “The mini storages are on the same piece of property, and I can’t get onto the property for the storages without getting on the Jerry’s Burgers property. So, we are looking at possible future options for that.”
Shepherd says that selling Triple T was to be in the cards once he reached a certain milestone. “I turned 65 this past year and that’s the American way: work your tail off till you’re 65 and retire, right? We’ve bought some land and plan to retire out there, that’s been the plan all along.”
Shepherd says that he is interested in talking with anyone who is interested in buying Triple T, and is even open to staying on for 30 days to teach the business to the new owner. “I’ll work every day, teach them how to order and all of that. I did that with Bill when I bought it, and so I am going to do it with who ever buys it. I’ll even be willing to be available for questions about if something breaks and they need to know who to call and things like that.”
For questions about the business, Jerry can be reached by calling the restaurant at 325-646-8619 or by stopping by 1411 Indian Creek during business hours.
