Nadene Griffin, age 93, of Early arrived at her Heavenly address on Sunday, June 17, 2018.
You are invited to celebrate Nadene’s life at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 30, 2018, at Blaylock Funeral Home Chapel with Shawn Griffin and Jason Burden officiating; burial will follow at Greenleaf Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Blaylock Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home.
Nadene was born February 5, 1925, to Omer and Ethel (Nunley) Parker in Gilliland, Texas. Private First Classman, George Griffin, first laid eyes on her at Early First Baptist Church, while she played the piano. Knowing she was the one, the two were married on June 2, 1946. They just celebrated their 72nd anniversary.
She was the first pianist at Early First Baptist. She worked as a telegram operator at Western Union during Word War II, and later was a typesetter for the Brownwood Bulletin. Nadene graciously provided for her family by sewing wedding dresses, crocheting blankets for grandkids, fixing hair, and cooking an annual legendary Thanksgiving meal.
Nadene is survived by her devoted husband, George Griffin of Early; daughter, Gaye Fowler and husband Danny of Hico; son, Glen Griffin and wife Cathy of Early; grandchildren: David Fowler, Vicki Steele, Kristi Burden, Jennifer Horner, Angela Dorris, Shawn Griffin, Holly Allen, Zane Griffin, Zeb Griffin, Truett Griffin, Timothy Griffin, Amanda Griffin and their spouses; 24 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Joe Parker; and aunt (who was more like a sister), Wanda May. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Omer and Ethel Parker; son, Gary Griffin; and a granddaughter, Kelli Griffin.
The family would like to thank everyone that helped care for Nadene.
