Mary Frances “Yvonne” Peters was born February 25, 1943 at Mercy Hospital in San Diego California to Elton Calvin Cox of Olney, Texas and Wilma Inez Whiteley Cox of Quinton, Oklahoma.
She was a graduate of Mount Miguel High School in 1960 and received her associate’s degree from San Diego Community College as a secretary. She was very proud of the fact that she was on the Dean’s list. Growing up, she wanted to be either a hairdresser or a secretary.
Yvonne also attended Beauty College where she graduated and excelled winning several competitions in style and design. She continued to cut several friends and families hair until she passed. She worked as a legal secretary and a beautician until moving to Brownwood in 1976.
Yvonne was a secretary at several places including the Southern Savings and Loan, then the City of Brownwood, before getting into insurance. It was after obtaining a job at a local insurance office that she decided to get her license and become an agent. She opened Peters Insurance in 1985. With a strong will and determination, she and her son Scott moved into the back half of her office and began her career which lasted for over 30 years. She specialized in life, health, and Medicare supplements, but she found her calling with the senior market. Yvonne was blessed through her business with all of the relationships with her customers most of all.
Yvonne was active in many state and local organizations, including the American Business Women’s Association, the Pecan Valley Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, the Central Texas Chapter of Treasure Clubs and the Brownwood Chamber of Commerce. Yvonne held various positions in the Brown County Republicans Woman’s Club in addition to helping in various local, state, and national Republican Party activities.
The greatest influence on her life was her grandmother Katie Cox. It was from her where she learned how to garden and re-purpose almost anything. She loved every animal she came across, adopting many through the years. Yvonne also loved her hobbies which included rock collecting, gardening, genealogy, and reading about Native American history and her Cherokee roots.
She most especially loved her family, spending time with her two grandchildren Christian and Gracie Peters, sharing her love of nature and the outdoors with them.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two infant sons.
Yvonne is survived by her son Scott Peters and wife Chris of Brownwood and their children Christian and Gracie, Her brother Kenneth Calvin Cox and his wife Patricia of Brownwood, as well as various nieces, nephews, and cousins.
