Bettie Jo Perkins passed away October 9, 2017 at home with her family by her side.  She was born April 30, 1931 in San Saba County to Harvey Mathews and Ethel Fitzgerald Mathews.  She attended school in Elm Grove and Bangs.  In 1949 she married Edwin Glen Perkins.  Three children were born during this marriage.  They made their home in Brownwood, Texas.  Later Bettie lived in Bangs and worked for Brownwood school district till her retirement. The past three years she made her home with her daughter Pam in Ebony, Texas. Bettie loved working in her yard and watching the birds and wildlife.  Mostly she loved being surrounded by her children and grandchildren.  During her last days she was thinking about her family and their well-being.  She spent her last hours thanking God for her family.  She was a quiet, private person always putting others first and finding good in all people.  Bettie had a very strong faith in God.  Although she was unable to attend church she gave in many other ways to help people.  She will be greatly missed and there will be a special peace in our hearts for this precious little lady where we will cherish her memory forever.

Bettie was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers H. C. Mathews, Mervil Mathews, Bill Mathews, and J.L. Mathews.  A great granddaughter Dakota Hopper and son-in-law Mike Carey.

She is survived by a son Randy Perkins and wife Dawn, two daughters Pam Carey and companion Danny and Brenda Beeler, 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren.  Also Julie Miller which Bettie considered her granddaughter.  Julie spent time visiting and assisting Bettie.   She is also survived by a sister Melba Fox.

The family will receive friends 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM Saturday, October 14, 2017 at the Heartland Funeral Home in Early.

Memorials may be made to Saint Jude’s Children’s Hospital and Good Samaritan Ministries.

Online condolences may be left for the family at www.heartlandfuneralhome.net
