Brownwood Police made a traffic stop on Monday afternoon, October 17th, which led to the arrest of an Abilene man on narcotics charges. Brownwood Chief of Police Terry Nichols released the following information.
At approximately 4:00 p.m., Brownwood Police Corporal Brandon Miller conducted a traffic stop on a 2002 Chevrolet pickup for speeding in the 1800 block of Belle Plain Street. After first observing the vehicle speeding and attempting to initiate a traffic stop, the vehicle made evasive turns in an attempt to avoid being stopped. The traffic stop was eventually conducted in the 300 block of Hackberry Street.
The driver and sole occupant of the truck, later identified as Casey Joe Beabout, 21 years old of Abilene, acted very nervous during the traffic stop. During the course of the traffic stop, a set of digital scales with methamphetamine residue was located in Beabout’s pocket. During questioning, Beabout admitted to having methamphetamine in the vehicle.
A search of the vehicle revealed a bag containing approximately 42 grams of suspected methamphetamine next to the driver’s seat. Narcotics investigators from the Brownwood Police Department and Brown County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and assisted with the investigation.
Beaubout was arrested and charged with Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 1, Over 4 Grams and Under 200 Grams, a First Degree Felony and was booked into the Brown County Jail.
“There is no doubt these drugs were intended to be sold on the streets of Brownwood and Brown County,” said Chief Terry Nichols. “We will continue to actively work with our law enforcement and community partners to prevent and disrupt the distribution of illegal drugs in our community.”
