The Brownwood Area Community Garden (BACG) will hold its “A Gathering in the Garden” fall fundraiser dinner on November 6, from 5pm to 7pm at the Garden. The dinner will be catered by The Turtle Restaurant, and will feature Debra Mathis on piano. A silent auction will be held, with items from local businesses, including AgMart, Steves Market and Deli, and Humphrey Pete’s Restaurant. Auction items will also include generous gift baskets from some of the vendors of the Brown County Farmers’ Market, which has been part of BACG for the past three years. Tickets for the evening are $50, which benefit and support the Garden.
BACG began in 2010, and is located at 1514 Dublin Street in Brownwood, directly behind the Central Texas Opportunities (CTO) building and close to the Salvation Army on Lakeway. The Community Garden is a non-profit organization, making low-cost irrigated garden plots available for a minimal fee to anyone in the community. Many plots are dedicated to feeding the hungry; fresh, organic produce is donated to the Salvation Army for their Loaves and Fishes soup kitchen every week.
Many events and programs have been held in the Garden throughout the year, including seasonal festivals, musical evenings, workshops, and children’s events, such as the Summer Vacation Garden School. According to Freda Day, past board member, “I always enjoy going to the Community Garden events. Great food from The Turtle, while listening to great music by Debra Mathis. It will be a very pleasant evening.”
Daniel Graham, Garden Coordinator invites everyone to come to the garden on the 6th and share the evening with Community Garden members and board members. “Come enjoy your Community Garden, while having an excellent meal, some music and a relaxed silent auction in the company of friends.”
Tickets are available at the Brownwood Chamber of Commerce or The Turtle Restaurant. For more information, please call Daniel Graham at 325-641-9029 or Debra Mathis at 325-800-9469.
