Graveside funeral services for Gayland Snell, age 83, of Brownwood, Texas formerly of Kermit will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, August 27, 2015 at the Almeda Cemetery in Eastland County under the direction of the Heartland Funeral Home. The family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. Snell passed away Tuesday, August 25, 2015 in a local nursing home.
Gayland Clyde Snell was born on February 23, 1932 in Eastland County to William Hollis and Gracie Pearl Strickler. He grew up and attended school in Eastland. He served in the United States Marines during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged he moved to the Midland area in 1956 and began his career with El Paso Natural Gas as a surveyor. He retired in 1986 after 30 years of service and moved to Kermit, Texas. Gayland resided in Kermit until 2015 when he moved to Brownwood to be near his son. He enjoyed wood work, carpentry and restoring classic cars.
Survivors include his son Terry Snell and wife Lou Ann of Brownwood, Texas; adopted son James Snell and wife Susan; adopted daughters Jan and Laura; numerous grandchildren including Leslie Miller of Brownwood and Jason Snell of Sanger, Texas; great grandchildren Alyssa Miller of Brownwood and Colton Snell of May, Texas; sister Doris Bennett of Eastland, Texas; brother Johnny Snell of Rye, Texas and by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents William and Pearl Snell, sister Leola Fillyaw and brothers Truman and Glenn Snell.
