Acclaimed Brownwood photographer and art community leader Roger Levesque will be honored at a Farewell reception by the Brownwood Art Association.

The Farewell reception, Thursday April 3, will be from 5 to 7 pm at the Art Center in Downtown Brownwood, 215 Fisk Ave. and is open to the public.

A representational display of Levesque’s photographic art will be shown at the Farewell event, and will be for sale as a fundraising effort for the Art Center.

Levesque is relocating to Austin in mid-April after 26 years in Brownwood. He and his wife Linda moved to Brownwood from Austin in 1999. Since then, he has served as board member and president of the Brownwood Art Association and was instrumental in establishing the Art Center in Downtown Brownwood.

“Brownwood has felt like home to me from the beginning,” Levesque said. “As much as I hate to leave, it’s the best thing for me to do. I will miss my art and photography community, and the many friends made through the years.”

He was the first photographer to be awarded Artist of the Year by the BAA in 2009, and was responsible for bringing photography into the arena at the renowned Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit held each year at The Depot in Brownwood. His creative philosophy is “Art is my passion; photography is my medium.”

Levesque’s photography has been exhibited nationwide in shows, galleries and in private collections. He was featured in “Art of Photography” magazine in 2010, and “Aperture” magazine in 2009. He was inducted into the International Wedding and Event Videographer Association in 2003 for his efforts in promoting the industry.

He served as Chair of the Brownwood Arts Council and was active in establishing the Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit. He also served on the board of the Lehnis Railroad Museum Council and the Brownwood Reunion Celebration.
