SAN ANTONIO – The San Saba Lady Dillos came up short in their bid for the Class 2A Division I girls basketball state championship, falling to Nocona by a 54-37 count Thursday night in the final at the Alamodome.
The Lady Dillos (32-7) trailed Nocona (32-6) by a 7-5 count after one quarter, 20-11 at halftime, and 35-24 through three periods.
San Saba shot 29 percent (14 of 49) from the floor, but converted just 3 of 20 three-pointers, and committed 20 turnovers. Nocona knocked down 35 percent (20 of 57) of its shots, buried 9 three-pointers and coughed up the ball just 12 times.
The Lady Dillos received double-doubles of 15 points and 15 rebounds from Cinzlea Stanton and 13 points and 11 boards from Chassidy Gonzales, while Olivia Sebastian chipped in four points, Emaleigh Argote added three and Brooklyn Allison scored two points.
Megyn Meekins finished with a game-high 30 points for Nocona while Aubree Kleinhans recorded a double-double of 13 points and 14 rebounds.
