Friend, Empathic, and Selfless, are the characteristics that describe Diane Thompson.
Born on December 28, 1957, in Brady, Texas, to Alonzo and Nola Alexander. Diane is married to James Thompson, and the two have one daughter, Nicole Thompson. Diane is a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
With a passion for helping others Diane knew as a young girl that she wanted to enter a field where she could help others. Diane attended and graduated from Howard Payne University where she received her Bachelor of Science in Education and Marketing.
In some way or another, Diane has spent much of her career in the line of social work.
After graduating with her degree, Diana spent nine years working as the Youth Activity Supervisor for the Texas Youth Commission, known as the Ron Jackson State School. There she engaged with the students of TYC, helping them cope through various activities.
In 1990, she took on a role with South Park Development Center, developing a behavioral medication plan for the residents. She would work in this capacity expanding the program for the next two years.
Learning from her experience as a youth activities director for TYC, Diane went back to working with the youth of Brownwood, this time in the Department of Protective and Regulatory Services, from 1992 until 2011. Living in her true calling, for the next 19 years Diane would work in various departments and positions including: Family-Based Safety Services; where she worked with families to prevent child removals, Conservatorship Caseworker; where she focused on family reunification, Department of Assistive and Rehabilitation Services (DARS) as a counselor, and Residential Child Care Licensing Investigator; where she was responsible for investigating child abuse in foster homes. In her 19 years, Diane always focused on the safety of children and bettering the life of the child.
Following a stellar career, Diane “officially” retired from the department in 2011. In 2012, Diane became a member of the Brownwood ISD School board, representing place 2. Currently, she is the Secretary/Treasurer for the board.
Not wanting to be completely done, Diane began volunteering her services to different organizations. She facilitated parenting classes for the Family Services Center and volunteered with the Big Brother and Big Sister program, working as a Match Support Specialist, managing a caseload of children paired with volunteers.
In 2018, she took on yet another role, she began as a Case manager and Educator for MHMR, where she conducted Pre-Admission Screening and Resident Review (PASSAR), monitoring nursing home residents and completing PASSAR screenings to determine service eligibility.
Since February 2023, Diane has been employed as an Educational Liaison at the Pregnancy Care Center in Brownwood, where she oversees educational and parenting programs.
In her free time, Diane enjoys traveling, shopping, and giving back to her community. Having a passion for helping and protecting the youth is what drove Diane’s career for the last 36 years. ROC is proud of the work Diane Thompson has done, we thank her for her loyalty to the children and community of Brownwood.
